Dr Jayaletchumi Gunasagaran is a specialized Consultant Orthopaedic Hand and Microsurgeon with experience in treating complex conditions of the hand and wrist (upper limb). Dedicated to restoring form and function, she provides meticulous, comprehensive care for both adult and paediatric patients.
She earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Universiti Malaya (UM) in 2006, followed by her Master of Orthopaedic Surgery (UM) in 2014. She then advanced her clinical training in Upper Limb and Reconstructive Microsurgery at Universiti Malaya under the mentorship of Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Tunku Sara. To further refine her expertise, she successfully completed a Fellowship in Hand and Wrist Surgery in Prince of Wales Hospital/ Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Prior to transitioning into full-time private clinical practice, Dr Jayaletchumi spent nearly a decade as a Clinical Specialist/ Lecturer in the Upper Limb & Reconstructive Microsurgery Unit at Universiti Malaya, where she combined advanced patient care with cutting-edge research and the training of future doctors and orthopaedic surgeons. During her academic and clinical tenure at Universiti Malaya, she was appointed as an Associate Professor in 2021 at the Faculty of Medicine (Department of Orthopaedic Surgery).
Alongside her full-time private clinical practice in SJMC, she continues to maintain strong ties to public healthcare and medical education. She currently serves as an Honorary Visiting Clinical Specialist in the Upper Limb & Reconstructive Microsurgery Unit at University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC).
